Alcohol inks are popular for their quick-drying properties and are often used in art projects on non-porous surfaces like glass, plastic, metal, or glossy paper. They are not typically used on porous surfaces because they tend to bleed or fade. Ink can be blended and mixed for more colours.

Alcohol ink is made of three primary components:

1. Dyes or Pigments: These are the substances that give alcohol ink its vibrant colors. Dyes are usually soluble in alcohol, providing a range of bright hues, while pigments can be used to create opaque or metallic colors.
2. Alcohol Base: This is the solvent that carries the dye or pigment. Isopropyl alcohol (typically with a high purity, such as 90% or above) is the most common base used in alcohol inks. Ethanol can also be used, but isopropyl alcohol is more typical.
3. Binder or Additives: Some alcohol inks contain additional chemicals to help with flow, drying time, or adhesion to various surfaces. These additives ensure that the ink spreads evenly and adheres well to different materials.
